Free Senior Posing Guide // 5 Easy Go To Poses for Photographers

I'm not going to lie, posing has always come really easy to me. I started photographing my friends in my high school photo class and it was just came naturally to me to direct. I also really enjoy studying editorial work and translating that into my own work. I'm saving you the trouble of all that though and just giving you some of my favorite go to poses for seniors.

When in doubt, Hug It Out!
I tell my clients to hug themselves or hold their elbows. Then I tell them to move their hands up or down, drop a shoulder, bring one hand up to their collarbone or face. I really enjoy this one straight on or from the side.

The Senior Pose
I honestly call this the senior pose even when I'm using it during boudoir or couples shoots. The model sits with their legs out to the side and you can have them rest their hand on their thigh/hip and drop their elbow against their side to create a super flattering line. The hand that is supporting them can move out away from their body to create more length. Have them change it up and bring a hand up near their face or in their hair.

Walk The Line
Think less Johnny Cash and more sobriety test... I tell my clients to pretend there is a straight line and they have to take big steps that cross over the line. I tell them to look down and then look up and then back down and then back up and so on. This will get them laughing and make it look more natural instead of them just staring straight into the camera. I have them put their hands in their pockets or hold their hair back out of their face. And then put it in reverse and make them walk backwards.

Hands in the Hair
Twirl it, gather it all to one side, hold it out, shake it from side to side, tangle fingers in it, gather it all up and hold it with both hands. The options are endless. And sometimes hair is the only accessory one needs.

Squating
This is another one that you can shoot straight on and from the side. Have them rest their forearms on their knees, or cross their arms over, bring a hand up in their hair, etc.
