Zoe // Class of 2019 // Wisconsin Senior Session

One of my favorite parts about senior sessions is watching my girls come out of their shells and embrace the fact that they really are powerful, wildish young women.
When I first met Zoe, I just wanted to squeeze her. You can tell right away what a sweet, genuine heart she has. And then she showed up for her shoot and completely blew me away! There's this quiet fierceness about her. And I think we can all agree that she's a stunner.

Just a disclaimer that I never share a before/after picture because I think there's anything wrong with the "before". Quite the contrary. I think Zoe is naturally one of the most adorable, beautiful, gorgeous, rad chicks ever. It's all about that inner transformation.

Let's all just take a few moments to really appreciate how freaking glorious Zoe's locks are. Ok continue.

I'm totally 100% fine with pets being involved in my senior sessions. Especially if it means I get to interact with a horse. I was honestly freaking out a little bit the entire time I was at Zoe's house. Also can we talk about how perfect that horse's mane is?!?! #HairGoals

I'm convinced that floral crowns were invented specifically for this girl. The entire universe conspired to make this next picture happen.

For future seniors, always bring a friend with you! Everyone needs a hype girl. Plus you need a couple more cute pictures together.

5 Easy Go To Senior Poses

I'm not going to lie, posing has always come really easy to me. I started photographing my friends in my high school photo class and it was just came naturally to me to direct. I also really enjoy studying editorial work and translating that into my own work. I'm saving you the trouble of all that though and just giving you some of my favorite go to poses for seniors.

When in doubt, Hug It Out!
I tell my clients to hug themselves or hold their elbows. Then I tell them to move their hands up or down, drop a shoulder, bring one hand up to their collarbone or face. I really enjoy this one straight on or from the side.

The Senior Pose
I honestly call this the senior pose even when I'm using it during boudoir or couples shoots. The model sits with their legs out to the side and you can have them rest their hand on their thigh/hip and drop their elbow against their side to create a super flattering line. The hand that is supporting them can move out away from their body to create more length. Have them change it up and bring a hand up near their face or in their hair.

Walk The Line
Think less Johnny Cash and more sobriety test... I tell my clients to pretend there is a straight line and they have to take big steps that cross over the line. I tell them to look down and then look up and then back down and then back up and so on. This will get them laughing and make it look more natural instead of them just staring straight into the camera. I have them put their hands in their pockets or hold their hair back out of their face. And then put it in reverse and make them walk backwards.

Hands in the Hair
Twirl it, gather it all to one side, hold it out, shake it from side to side, tangle fingers in it, gather it all up and hold it with both hands. The options are endless. And sometimes hair is the only accessory one needs.

Squating
This is another one that you can shoot straight on and from the side. Have them rest their forearms on their knees, or cross their arms over, bring a hand up in their hair, etc.

What To Wear For Your Senior Pictures

I know it's still winter but senior session season will be here before we know it! And I couldn't be more pumped. I've just been sitting over here daydreaming about sunshine and the most gorgeous photo shoots. We all know the makeup is important (Emily's the best of the best) and posing is key (I gotchu boo!) but a great wardrobe can be the difference between a good shoot and an amazing one. So I'm giving you a few pointers because I want all my little babes to have the raddest senior pictures.

Layer it up!
Cardigans, jackets, kimonos, dusters, a Stevie Nicks-esque shawl, etc. So simple but it will make any outfit more interesting and add some depth to your pictures. And if you don't have anything I'll gladly lend you my leather jacket for a little bit.

Hats and things!
Oh my goodness. I love hats. Felt hats, sun hats, beanies... Bring em all! Once again using one piece to change your outfit and make it more interesting. I'm also super into crystal and floral crowns, head wraps and head pieces, and anything else related.

Patterns
Once upon a time when I was getting my senior pictures down I was told that solids photographed best. But I'm pretty sure that was just a myth. Interesting patterns are my absolute favorite. Polka dots, stripes, floral, geometric shapes. Pair them with a solid or another pattern.

Something Other Than Blue Jeans
Don't get me wrong, jeans never go out of style and they go great with just about everything. But sometimes, like when you're as fabulous as my girl Cookie, you have to rock something other than blue jeans. I'm sorry but both of these pants are freaking phenomenal. I also really like harem pants and leggings (I don't care what anyone says. They are pants!) for something different.

Yes to the Dress
This probably seems like a no brainer but it bears repeating... Dresses. You just gotta do it. Don't be afraid to go long or vintage or different. Really just get all the dresses (or skirts) and bring them.

Make sure you pay attention to the colors of your outfits. Figure out your skin tone and undertone and then find out what colors look best on you. Also senior sessions usually happen during summer or fall so it's super easy to plan shopping for photos to coincide with your back to school shopping. Boom. Two for one.
Luckily we live in a world where Pinterest exists so you can find tons of ideas for outfits and styles. I put together a board to get you started in the right direction. Check it out >>Right Here<<

Now let's get some sessions on the calendar! xoxo
